St. Bernard is a breed of dogs which we can also call a Four Legged Angel of Life. He is a giant dog with a very warm heart. He is incredibly intelligent and a majesty aura that can shame a royalty. St. Bernard literally saved lives only by carrying water and food around his neck. He is a very humble, gentle, caring, loving and intelligent dog, all these make him a perfect pet for a family with kids.

St. Bernards need plenty of space to stretch their legs properly and a towel or 2 handy in each room just to ensure a drool-free environment. People believe only a few dogs can bring such warmth and joy like St. Bernard can.

St. Bernard are giant dogs, they need a large area to survive in and cannot adjust by squeezing their massive size into a small portion. They are large by their body and heavy by their weight.

The weight of St. Bernard can rise rapidly, which also can lead o deterioration of bones if proper food is not given and proper exercise are not performed. This breed is highly heredity prone as many times these dogs are affected genetically by hip dysplasia or elbow dysplasia. They are also susceptible to eye diseases like entropion and ectropion, what happens in these two are turning up the eyelids in or out. They also get affected by heart diseases like dilated cardiomyopathy, and eczema.

But as per standards of this breed, we can say it is its major fault.

The average life span of this breed is 8 to 10 years. The St. Bernard dog who lived maximum life was of 10 years and 9 months. 

Temperament

St. Bernard is a classic example of a gentle giant. He is calm, patient and sweet with adults, and especially with children. But like all other large dogs, St. Bernard also needs to get socialize with people and other dogs to get rid of fearfulness and any possible aggression or territoriality and also need proper training to behave appropriately. The only threat to children from this dog is facing this giant dog accidentally, as they get scared.  But overall they are a loyal, gentle and affectionate breed but only if it is trained properly. Because of its large size, it is essential to starts it’s training from a very early age when it is still a puppy.

A famous St. Bernard was measured as 95 kilograms and 85.7 cm in height.
